UK based MVNO launches globally enabled 5G eSIM

UK based Mobile Virtual Network Operator, eSIM.net Group Ltd, has enabled its flagship Pay As You Go eSIM with 5G service in nine countries around the world, with more being added every month. The 5G service connects users to the newly deployed 5G networks while continuing to offer cost-effective eSIM services across the 4G and 3G networks.

The Pay As You Go eSIM plan was launched in March 2020 and was the first to offer an eSIM service powered with full voice, SMS, and data services on a prepaid basis. It provides users with fixed rates and can be activated from anywhere at any time.

The introduction of the 5G eSIM means more coverage and better connectivity than ever before. Users get all the benefits of the regular Pay As You Go eSIM but with unrestricted access to the world’s fastest mobile network through leading 5G providers.

It can be purchased online with an initial credit of $10 and can be topped up by purchasing additional credit through the MVNO’s website or app which is available on the Apple and Google Play stores.

Although the rollout of 5G networks has been hampered by geopolitics and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has unfolded at breakneck speed across Europe in recent years with Finland, Germany, and Switzerland leading the way in 5G deployments.

Finland was among the first countries in the world to introduce the technology. Together with telecommunications and electronics company, Nokia, 5G has already been successfully deployed in 30 cities and municipalities across Finland and is gaining momentum.

In Germany, Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom have established themselves as the most prolific 5G providers. The partnership between Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson will see massive investment in 5G infrastructure in the country that will offer even greater connectivity for 5G eSIM users.

In Switzerland, Swisscom has rolled out 5G in all the main cities and towns, including Zürich, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, and Lucerne. About 2000 5G antenna are currently deployed across the country.

As governments and telecommunications companies continue to invest billions in developing 5G networks and more cellular providers enable 5G and eSIM services, the 5G eSIM will continue to expand to more countries and increase its coverage across Europe and beyond.

According to Mikaël Schachne, Vice President of Mobility and IoT at BICS, “Mobile operators see the revenue opportunities and are preparing for 5G roaming on a massive scale. This will connect not only machines and the IoT, but also business and leisure travelers with all the rich experiences of the 5G world.”

eSIM.net has agreements with the major cellular providers in these countries which allows them to offer their PAYG eSIM with enhanced capabilities such as access to 5G networks. The eSIM plan is delivered in the form of a QR code and only works with eSIM-enabled handsets.

While the PAYG plan works globally on all eSIM enabled devices, access to the 5G networks is only available on 5G-supported devices that also support eSIM.
