Global edtech leader Discovery Education today premiered a new special report for primary schools about Artificial Intelligence (AI) just in time for educators’ National Coding Week lessons.
The Espresso News Bites Special ‘AI in the Classroom’ gives pupils a deeper understanding of AI technology and how it shows up in everyday life. Filmed at a primary school in Manchester, this special report explores how AI can be used in the classroom, while highlighting the varied impacts of this fast-emerging technology.
‘AI in the Classroom’ is being streamed to thousands of UK schools from today via Espresso News Bites- the award-winning news service for children. Produced in partnership with ITN Productions, Espresso News Bites brings the world’s biggest stories to UK classrooms every day via Espresso by Discovery Education, the daily learning platform for primary schools.
Lizzy Lambley, Discovery Education’s Head of UK Production, said:
“Discovery Education Espresso News Bites provides trusted, high-quality content to help pupils explore news and current affairs. We’re pleased to help primary schools teach about Artificial Intelligence with this special news bulletin, which brings a complex, relevant subject to life in an engaging and age-appropriate way.”
To create the news special, a film crew from Discovery Education visited Chapel Street Community Primary School in Manchester, where they filmed a lesson in action and spoke to teachers and pupils about AI.
Assistant Headteacher and Curriculum Lead Jon Heath said,
“Our pupils were so excited to be filmed for Espresso News Bites. In our classroom and the wider world, AI is becoming a bigger part of our lives and by being part of this news special we hope we can excite and motivate other schools to engage their pupils on this important topic and consider the use of AI in their classroom.”
‘AI in the Classroom’ is available now to Espresso subscribers across the UK and around the world and can be viewed here and here. In addition to this special, Discovery Education also offers a host of resources matched to the Primary Computing Curriculum, including the award-winning Discovery Education Coding, which helps pupils to master and enjoy computer programming.
