Leading sign language tech company Signapse has launched SignStudio, the first-of-its-kind platform that seamlessly integrates sign language into existing third-party video content.
The easy-to-use tool transforms any video content into British Sign Language (BSL) or American Sign Language (ASL) for immediate use. Users simply upload their video to the platform for it to be updated with the integrated translation, delivered using a picture-in-picture set up which adds a sign language translator in the corner of the screen.
The platform allows quick upload and storage of multiple videos at any time, with different language options and customisable controls and branding options. Payment schemes include a pay-as-you-go scheme or a monthly subscription plan – and there is a customisable Enterprise plan for larger corporates.
The launch means existing and new video content can have increased accessibility with a much wider audience – 87,000 people in the UK use British Sign Language (BSL) as their first language and it is estimated that over 500,000 people use ASL.
Marcus Oaten, Deaf Impact Officer at Signapse says: “Incorporating a sign language translation in your video content makes it far more accessible and sends out a strong message of inclusivity, with very little outlay of time or cost.”
The British Deaf Association says: “We value the use of BSL as a human right. BSL must be preserved and promoted because we also value the right of Deaf people to use their first or preferred language.”
Marcus concludes: “This is a quick and easy way for startups, creatives, corporate video creators and companies of all kinds to ensure that they are offering far more inclusive content to their audiences. Sign language translations deliver messages in the native language of the Deaf community, for better engagement and understanding.”
