FinTech Scotland has today announced the winners of its “Shaping the Future of ESG in Financial Services” innovation call, with London-based sustainability analytics company GaiaLens being among the selected winners. GaiaLens will use the awarded funding to further develop its Greenwashing Analytics Solution, designed to help investors evaluate the greenwashing risk of funds and companies.

As part of this initiative, 20 fintechs were chosen to collaborate with 10 Industry Challenge Partners and universities, focusing on innovative solutions to drive ESG integration within financial services. Of these participants, eight winners, including GaiaLens, were selected to receive financial support to refine and expand their proposals. GaiaLens created a proposal for the greenwashing challenge statement set by Abrdn.

Launched in June 2024, the innovation call is a collaborative effort under the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab (FRIL), spearheaded by FinTech Scotland in partnership with the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow. The initiative addresses key data and technology challenges to enhance the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors in the financial services industry. Challenge Partners included leading financial institutions such as Lloyds Banking Group, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Phoenix Group, abrdn, HSBC, Virgin Money, EY, Sopra Steria, and Equifax. GaiaLens will be working with HSBC and Abrdn over the next few months to further develop their proposal.

GaiaLens, an AI-powered sustainability analytics platform, offers institutional investors and financial services firms state-of-the-art ESG tools for sustainability reporting, investment screening, and in-depth research. Through its advanced analytics, GaiaLens acts as a digital ESG analyst, simplifying and accelerating the investment decision-making process while addressing greenwashing risks.

“We are thrilled to be selected as one of the winners of this prestigious innovation call,” said Gordon Tveito-Duncan, CEO and Co-Founder of GaiaLens. “This initiative reinforces the growing importance of reliable ESG data and technology, providing investors with the confidence and insights needed to navigate the evolving landscape of sustainable finance. The funding we have received will allow us to further develop our Greenwashing Analytics Solution, ensuring that investors have the tools they need to make informed, transparent ESG investment decisions,” he adds.
