Workflo Solutions calls on businesses to double down on cyber-security to fight growing threat of digital extortion

A leading managed service provider is calling on businesses across the UK to double down on their cyber security and ramp up resilience this month in light of the rise of increasingly sophisticated digital attacks. To mark the beginning of Ransomware Awareness Month, West Lothian’s Workflo Solutions is launching a campaign to educate and protect UK businesses from the growing threat of cyber-crime, and offering free cyber-security audits to help businesses evaluate their current defences and identify vulnerabilities.

According to the digital experts at Workflo Solutions, the ransomware attacks they have witnessed in recent months have evolved far beyond simple phishing attacks. They say an increasing number of cyber-criminals are using double and triple extortion techniques, where data is not only encrypted but also stolen and threatened to be published or sold.

What’s more, they have reported more attackers leveraging AI-driven tools to craft highly targeted phishing emails, making social engineering attacks harder to detect.

Speaking ahead of the launch of their Ransomware Awareness Month campaign, Workflo Solutions’ managing director Michael Field commented; “Given the increasing scale and complexity of digital extortion threats, we felt compelled to launch a dedicated awareness campaign. Throughout July we will be sharing expert insights, practical cyber-security tips and providing free cyber-security audits. It is more important than ever that businesses move beyond traditional defences and adopt multi-layered cyber-security strategies in order to stay safe online.”

To help in the fight against cyber-crime, Michael is calling on all businesses to be proactive and adopt the following five steps this month:

  1. Educate your team: The majority of ransomware attacks begin with human error. Regular, practical training is your first line of defence.
  2. Keep backups and test them: Maintain encrypted, offline backups and routinely test recovery protocols to ensure business continuity.
  3. Patch everything promptly: Apply updates and security patches to all software and devices – attackers often exploit outdated systems.
  4. Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA): Drastically reduce the chances of unauthorised access with MFA on all critical systems.
  5. Partner with a trusted IT provider: Work with experts like Workflo Solutions to implement proactive monitoring, endpoint protection, and a tailored incident response plan.

For a more detailed insight into the changing face of cyber-security, Workflo Solutions is inviting businesses to book a free cyber-security audit this July by emailing hello@workflo-solutions.co.uk, or calling 01506 242281. The hope is that by raising awareness, they can unite UK businesses in the fight against these damaging cyber-attacks.
