“Vismo Checkpoints” announced: identifies where employees are in a building or event space for proof of presence

Vismo has announced “Vismo Checkpoints”, a proof of presence tool that takes employee wellbeing a step further by using QR codes to let organisations know precisely where staff are in a building or event space.
Designed for high location accuracy and ease of use, Checkpoints is used with the Vismo Locate & Protect App on smartphones, from where it integrates with Vismo’s secure portal and the employer organisation’s security protocols. All users have to do is scan strategically placed QR codes with their phone. The app does the rest, giving users a message that the code has been scanned correctly, and uploading the data to the portal.
The QR codes are placed by the employer’s admin team. Each scan sends the precise location of the user, via the portal, to the team.
“Checkpoints enables employers to understand not only the geographic location but also the position of staff in a building at the time of the scan,” says Vismo Global Sales Director Colin Dale. “That could be very useful for field operatives who need to log visits to remote or unmanned locations, as well as increasing safety for hotel staff.”
Compliance
Checkpoints helps with duty of care compliance, and is especially useful for employers whose workforce is widely distributed – because it can be scaled up by any number – and for safeguarding lone workers in healthcare and hotels.
In the UK, Checkpoints will support those having to adhere to the upcoming Martyn’s law. The law, also known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 is designed to strengthen the security of public premises and events, specifically improving security and preparedness for potential terrorist attacks at those locations.
The law is named after Martyn Hett, who died in the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorism attack. It requires those responsible for events and public premises to take action to reduce the risk of attacks.
In the USA, Checkpoints supports Intro. 0991, also known as the Safe Hotels Act, a law of New York City that came into effect in November 2025. It sets new, stronger standards for safety, staffing, and cleaning in hotels. Similarly, Checkpoints can also be used for supporting lone healthcare workers, a sector prone to assault and worse – and shocked by the murder of visiting nurse Joyce Grayson during a scheduled check at a Connecticut halfway house in 2023.
Time stamped proof of presence
“Checkpoints is also useful for security staff, especially those working alone, who check buildings or other spaces at night,” says Dale. “Security companies have to prove to their clients that their staff have been in agreed areas at agreed times. Checkpoints provides time-stamped proof of presence and is an excellent verification method for ensuring accountability and attendance as legally agreed.”
Application sectors
Application sectors physical security including facilities management companies; retail; travel and hospitality including hotels chains and boutique hotels, commercial cleaning operators; health care provision in nursing homes and community support agencies, where Checkpoints offers cost effective time-stamped compliance and duty of care; event management – for festival sites, stadiums and exhibition centres; utilities including telecom infrastructures, water companies – and renewable energy operators, where solar and wind power “farms” need maintenance and security; museums, and education – schools, colleges and universities.
“Checkpoints will appeal to employer organisations that prioritise speed of setup, cost effectiveness and all the factors that drive optimum wellbeing of staff,” says Dale.
Panic button
“Vismo’s panic button on the app can be used very precisely with Checkpoints,” Dale adds, “enabling security personnel and other support staff to reach users more quickly if they feel, or are, in danger.”
