Huawei today announced the winners of its AppGallery Europe Editors’ Choice Awards 2020, which celebrate the apps that have empowered and enabled people to live a more connected life this year, focusing on the categories of health, lifestyle, personal growth, entertainment and the environment.
“With so many of us spending more time than ever at home and with everyday services being less accessible, mobile apps are playing an increasingly important role in helping to keep people close to the things they value the most,” said Dr. Jaime Gonzalo, Vice President of Huawei Mobile Services in Europe. “With the AppGallery Europe Editors’ Choice Awards, we want to recognise the developers who have had a positive impact on society, helping people to learn, laugh, work, work out, say hello, or even just stay sane, thanks to their innovative apps.”
The 2020 award categories champion app innovation which overall makes users’ lives easier and better, especially in light of what has been a challenging year for many. This year’s categories are:
- Best app for the planet
- Best app for staying healthy
- Best app for personal growth
- Most helpful app
- Most entertaining app
The five category winners will each receive their own AppGallery Europe Editors’ Choice Awards 2020 trophy in the coming weeks, as well as having their app promoted on AppGallery, for new users to discover and enjoy. Another ten developers have also been nominated for an Honourable Mention for their remarkable apps. All the apps can be found here. BEST APP FOR THE PLANET
Winner: Ecosia
For this category, the AppGallery Europe Editors were looking for an app which drives people to do good for society, the climate and their surroundings. They felt that the search engine, Ecosia, ticked all these boxes, helping to reverse the effects of climate change by planting trees with every search made.
BEST APP FOR STAYING HEALTHY
Winner: Sleep Cycle
Now more than ever, it’s important to pay extra attention to our health and for this category. The AppGallery Europe Editor team crowned Sleep Cycle, the intelligent sleep tracker, monitor and alarm clock, as the worthy winner. The app encourages people to relax, sleep better and wake up rested.
BEST APP FOR PERSONAL GROWTH
Winner: Kahoot!
This year has seen the ongoing rise of remote learning and so the AppGallery Europe Editors praised Kahoot!, the game-based learning platform, in the personal growth category, as the app has helped to bring engagement and fun to education when it has been needed the most.
MOST HELPFUL APP
Winner: Bolt
When it came to deciding the winner of the Most Helpful App, the AppGallery Europe Editors considered which app had helped people adapt to new ways of living, as well as continuing to support their day-to-day activities, in light of ongoing challenges. Bolt came out on top, with the transportation app helping those who still need to travel do so in a way that is fast, safe and affordable.
MOST ENTERTAINING APP
Winner: Deezer
With live music events temporarily on hold, the editors felt that Deezer, the music streaming service, deserved recognition for continuing to give music lovers a much-needed escape, with over 56 million tracks, playlists and podcasts plus personalised recommendations for users to enjoy.
