emporia Telecom, the accessible communications brand for people aged +65yrs, announces an exclusive charity partnership with the Royal Hospital Chelsea home of the iconic Chelsea Pensioners. The partnership will see the Royal Hospital’s veterans taken on a journey of digital discovery – driving them to embrace and strengthen their ability with smart technology.
emporia will deliver bespoke training and provide a suite of easy-to-use devices including tablets and smartphones. Residents will participate in emporia’s insight initiatives – testing new products and propositions. The ongoing collaboration will be supported with an integrated brand communications campaign encompassing editorial, digital, social media and live events.
emporia’s support will include a product installation, at the Hospital’s new Prince Philip Building Activity Centre, to help residents become familiar with smart devices and develop skills at their own pace. This will allow for ongoing workshops to be facilitated – providing education and support. As its ‘Charity of Choice’ emporia will also be making donations to the organisation through commercial promotions and fundraising.
Martin Field, Director of Public Engagement at Royal Hospital Chelsea comments: “Over the course of the last three years we’ve seen a willingness by the Pensioners to adapt to using video call technology to speak with friends and family, however, this has overly relied on our Health & Wellbeing staff. We’re really pleased that this partnership with emporia Telecom will open up a range of new possibilities for the Pensioners in the way they interact with the digital world and understand technology – which can be very daunting for many of them.”
Chris Millington, Managing Director at emporia Telecom UK & Ireland adds: “We are proud to support the Chelsea Pensioners. The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a globally recognised and renowned Great British institution. Its residents are hugely inspiring, with some partaking in activities including skydiving and abseiling to raise funds. This group truly demonstrates the importance of living life to the fullest – they show that age is simply a number and one to be very proud of. To be fully included in today’s always-on and ever-changing world digital connectivity is key. More and more transactional and everyday tasks are impossible without a smartphone. We look forward to empowering this fantastic group and showing retirees everywhere that technology can be easy and accessible.”
